How to make the world a better place (Q13 LFE)

Ladies and gentlemen,
Compassion. Kindness. Respect. Patience.
Virtues that are hammered into children at young age. However when one looks at the grown adults in our society, these
values seem to have vanished. Whether it be in politics, where people have begun to objectify and hate immigrants. Or our
day to day life where people have grown snappy and fake, this process has been taking place. Many people, myself
included, have become trapped in negativity, complaining, and selfishness.
This holiday season, each and everyone of us, has the chance to actively change this. Give back to the community, help
those in need, treat thy neighbour as yourself, and spread the holiday cheer for goodness sake. Ways to achieve this can
include small acts of kindness and actively keeping your virtues in your day to day lives. But right now is your chance:
gGo volunteering,
Go donate to charity, and
Go practice mindfulness and thankfulness for all we have experienced this past year.
Go smile at a stranger.
Go thank your mailman and teacher for all they do.
Go give sincere compliments.
Go practice gratitude.
Go reach out to a loved one who you have heard from in a while.
Go have a happy holiday!
Thank you

Helena

How to make the world a better place
by Lea

Ladies and Gents,
If I were to list all the issues mankind is trying to tackle currently, I could not finish it by tomorrow. There has never been another point in history where more people were living on planet earth whilst our world is facing ecological and social annihilation.
What if I told you that there is one underlying principle beneath our inability to stop the war in Ukraine, to provide for basic needs in humanitarian crises in Africa and elsewhere and beneath our inability to stop climate change? What if I told you that it is selfishness, a concept as old as free will itself, that renders us as a species incapable of building paradise on earth?
Logically, one could argue, one way to counter selfishness is by donating and sharing, which, however, is extremely short-lived and a little selfish in the sense that it is more comfortable than taking action yourself. Now, I am not suggesting that you go risk your life by entering a warzone in order to help civilians. What I am demanding of you though is that you take part in creating a universal culture of love starting today. Go be kind to each other and be a role model for the youth. Listen to each other, share with each other and help where you can so that those younger than us can continue in a likewise manner someday. Go make compromises if otherwise the alternative is both of you getting the shorter end of the stick.
Because at the end of the day, politicians being unable or even unwilling altogether to push into the same direction and concede if necessary is evidence of the approach we have been taking towards society for the past few decades.
Frankly, this process of establishing a world-wide kindness is not going to show its effects tomorrow, possible not even in the next 20 years. Yet this only gets to show the importance of starting right now.
Because we do in fact have the means to introduce a stable peace and balance for every living human – the only limiting factor is willingness to overcome the tendency of acting selfishly.
